Gizmo on the Nokia N800

I was futzing about while running a directory size tool (which crashed so I won’t mention it until I find out if it was me or the app) and after its crash I rebooted. This started up Gizmo which then prompted me to search for any new people to add to my contact list, which then prompted me to see if there was an update….

Anywho, I ended up on their website and I noticed they had a mention of running Gizmo on a N800 – woo! – so I downloaded and installed it.

I must it was a *very* easy setup and I even accidently called Ted by mistake while testing the interface (sorry Ted!)

So now I have a choice, if I’m in a WiFi hotspot, instead of using the cell phone I can take out the N800 and call the 5 people who also have Gizmo! hehehe – well, at least until I get a call-out plan :)

introducing twerp – YATC

YATC (Yet Another Twitter Client)

While waiting for the test tinderbox runs to cycle, I was chatting with some friends on IRC last night where one of them was complaining about a lack of a simple Linux command line Twitter tool. After asking a couple questions to see if he really wanted a simple tool I told him I would write one for him using Python – so twerp was started.
Twerp can send a status update, send a direct message and poll for your latest friend’s timeline.

That’s it – nothing else. All written in Python with help from simplejson

Source, Python 2.4 and 2.5 ez_install eggs and other tidbits can be found at http://code.google.com/p/pytwerp/

exercise in futility or cost-offset?

I’ve been doing some coding for various people, nothing fancy mind you, just some bots or utility coding here and there – but people are appreciating the help and mentioning me and my blog more often. Very nice to see :)

Because of the interest and increased traffic, my basic hosting setup has been showing signs of stress. To prevent the items that are running on it now to not slow to a crawl I have opted to upgrade some bits of it but that of course increases the cost. To help offset the increase I finally decided to try out Google Adsense.

Now I don’t expect to make any serious money off of this at all – I’m just hoping that something comes in :)

So if you notice the ads and they really annoy you then let me know. The painful reality is that I have to either move in the direction of being more “out there” or just going back to lurking behind the scenes.

new level of internet enabled participation

Chris Pirillo (of lockergnome) is really showing what is possible with the current internet tech.

Right now I’m watching his live stream and during the “show” people on Twitter started to live post about the earthquake so he asked for anyone who lived in Mexico City to call in.

Next he setup a conference call and Eduardo Arcos called in and while chatting with Eduardo he decided to do a skype conference call with Eduardo.

So while watching a live stream, talking over a conference call we are talking with and seeing Eduardo in Mexico City. All live with back channels on IRC and Twitter.

wow

new version of OS X to be delayed

Saw this pop up on my Twitterific stream:

rands: Stolen from Deric — and relevant: http://tinyurl.com/2huuw5 (which points to http://biz.yahoo.com/prnews/070412/sfth056.html?.v=87 )

So basically the iPhone siphoned off QA and Dev resources from OS X, so much so that it caused Leopard to be delayed.

If anything this really points to the fact that Apple is a hardware company first and foremost and uses it’s software to push hardware sales.
