Jaiku learns how to Jabber

One of the things that has kept me returning to Twitter for all my micro/presence blogging has been it’s simple and easy IM bot – just send it a message and you have posted. All posts from people I follow (and direct messages) are also sent to me.

Well now Jaiku has joined the ranks of Jabber-enabled apps and it has raised the stakes considerably with some great features.

Jaiku has for a while now supported channels and the bot will let you post and reply to channels as well as to your presence stream.

Nice job RalphM and the Jaiku team!

Twerp version 0.3 (Twitter command-line client)

After a couple email conversations about suggested changes and the like, Decklin Foster has been added to the commit list – woo!

More bugs were slain, some new parameters were added and a general code tidying-up ensued – enough that we decided to push the release button on 0.3.

Details on the project are on the pyTwerp code.google page, details about the 0.3 changes are in the CHANGES.txt file and the download bits are here.

WordPress Security Update

Got word that WordPress has released a security update so figured I would upgrade my site.

Just testing that all my hooks and tools are working.

I’ve been doing a slow boil over the Google Group’s widget complete inability to get it’s unread count to reflect any form of reality. I can sit on a group summary page for minutes, read each message and then go back to my summary page and it will have the number completely wrong – heck sometimes I think it just guesses what number it should be!

So, while sitting here waiting for a slow, slow, SLOW! darcs push command to finish (it’s been almost 45 minutes) I started thinking that I should check to see if Google Groups has any feed love happening…

Sure enough, tucked down at the foot of the page is that little lovely orange XML button – wooo!

So, ok, you would think I would have figured this out much earlier – but it’s been awful convenient to just click on one of the widget links and go to the group page that way. Heck, the folks at Google are serious smart so you would think they could get unread counts right!

Wouldn’t Ya?
